Vishmi Serasinghe: From Sri Lanka to the USA – A Journey of Triumph and Promise

We are incredibly proud to share the remarkable journey of Vishmi Serasinghe, one of our dedicated athletes who has not only excelled on the tennis courts of Sri Lanka but is now embarking on an exciting new chapter in her life. Vishmi has recently begun her studies at Goshen College in Indiana, USA.

Vishmi’s tennis career has been a testament to her hard work and determination. In July 2024, she made headlines by winning the singles title at the Negombo Tennis Club All Island Open Ranking Tennis Tournament. Her victory was no easy feat; she overcame formidable opponents, including Venulil Jayasinghe, ranked 9th in the island’s under-18 category, and Randini, the tournament’s top seed and ranked 15th. Vishmi’s triumph in the quarter-finals against Ashanthi, who had been honing her skills in England, further solidified her status as a rising star in Sri Lankan tennis.

Supported by the Foundation of Goodness and generous contributions from Mr. Ashan Malalasekara, Vishmi has received significant investments in her tennis career and education. This financial backing has been crucial in her preparation for international competitions and her academic journey at Goshen College.

Her rigorous training regime, which includes gym sessions, massage therapy, and back injury recovery exercises, reflects her unwavering commitment to her sport. Vishmi’s journey from Sri Lanka to Indiana is not just a personal achievement but a symbol of hope and inspiration for many young athletes in our country. Her story reminds us of the power of perseverance, the importance of support, and the incredible opportunities that can arise when talent meets dedication. We wish Vishmi the very best as she continues to shine, both on the court and in her academic pursuits, representing the spirit of Sri Lanka on an international stage.
