St Benedict’s School, Ealing: Creating Bonds Through Cricket

St Benedict’s School in Ealing, UK, has once again embarked on a journey to Sri Lanka, a tradition they’ve upheld for several tours. However, this isn’t just an ordinary school trip; it’s a journey marked by purpose, camaraderie, and the love for cricket.

But this trip isn’t just about sightseeing or cultural immersion. It’s about fostering connections, making a tangible impact, and spreading the joy of sports. In line with this ethos, the boys and their parents have tirelessly fundraised to support the tour’s initiatives, showing their commitment to both the school and the broader community.

One of the highlights of their visit was a cricket match between the visiting St Benedict’s UK U13/U14 team and the FOG Academy U13, comprising new intakes from January 2024. The match, held at the iconic MCC Lords ground in Hikkaduwa on April 1st, 2024, was a spectacle of talent, sportsmanship, and friendly competition. Here are the match scores: St Benedict’s: 263 for 6 wickets in 40 overs FOG Academy: 158 for 4 wickets in 40 overs With an impressive display of skill and determination, St Benedict’s emerged victorious, clinching the match by a margin of 105 runs. However, beyond the final score, what truly mattered was the spirit of the game and the bonds forged on the field.

Following the match, the goodwill continued as representatives from St Benedict’s School made a generous gesture towards the Foundation of Goodness, a cheque amounting to GBP 11,000 was handed over to the Foundation of Goodness, which is  a testament to St Benedict’s commitment to supporting the organisation’s noble endeavors. Additionally, three cricket bags were also donated, symbolising the shared passion for the sport and the spirit of giving back.

Through initiatives like these, St Benedict’s School exemplifies the power of sports in bringing people together, transcending boundaries, and making a positive impact on communities, both locally and globally. As the tour continues, it’s not just about the places they visit but the lives they touch and the memories they create, leaving an indelible mark of goodwill and friendship.
