Launch of the 18th Village Heartbeat Empowerment Center

We take immense pride in announcing the opening of our 18th Village Heartbeat Empowerment Centre, located in Ahangama within the Galle District. This remarkable achievement has been made possible through the visionary and dedicated efforts of Mr. Richard Pembroke and Mrs. Charlotte Pembroke, from The Tekanda Foundation.

This newly established facility, dedicated to offering all its courses free of charge, represents a beacon of hope for the numerous beneficiaries residing in the nearby villages who often encounter difficulties in accessing quality education. The center is equipped with state-of-the-art amenities, including an IT lab, Dressmaking room, Cookery course room, dance training area, and classrooms focusing on primary education and a wide range of subjects such as English and Tamil Language, Planetary Health Education Course, STEM activities, Science, and Mathematics. Furthermore, the Center features a Badminton court.

One of the unique features of this Centre is the modern volunteer accommodation that is available at the Centre which will no doubt be a great asset for any volunteers at the Centre or around the Galle district.

During the opening ceremony, Kushil Gunesekera, Founder and Chief Trustee of the Foundation of Goodness, highlighted the pivotal role of education in empowering rural communities for a brighter future. Mr Shantha Weerasinghe, Government Agent of the Galle District, the event’s Chief Guest, also emphasized the significance of such endeavors in uplifting rural communities.

Mr. Richard Pembroke shared his vision for the Center with the audience, and was followed by a speech by the Center’s coordinator, Miss. Chathurangi, who addressed the beneficiaries in attendance. The event was enlivened by vibrant and colorful dance performances by students, creating lasting memories for all those present.

As we remain committed to our mission of bridging the urban-rural gap, we are filled with hope and anticipation for the future of the Ahangama Centre and its beneficiaries. We eagerly await the growth and prosperity of the children and adults who will benefit from our courses. Undoubtedly, the Ahangama Village Heartbeat Empowerment Centre will make a significant and positive impact on the lives of those it serves.
