Dive Training

The Seenigama Diving and Training Centre, established in 2008, provides professional diving training for rural youth. The centre was opened to offer an alternative for young divers in the region who were involved in illegal coral mining for the quick lime industry. By providing the necessary training to become licensed PADI divers, the centre aims to divert them from returning to this destructive practice and qualify them for employment in the global commercial diving industry. The programme includes a 6 month Professional Diving Class III course, during which students also complete their PADI Advanced Course, fully equipping them for employment in industrial diving work.

Success Stories

Naiduahandi Manuja lost 4 family members to the 2004 Tsunami which she was able to escape, even without knowing how to swim. She looks back on this day as her first experience of being underwater. That was the day she decided she wanted to become a diver. She joined the Foundation of Goodness Dive for Good Centre as our very first female dive student. Manuja also pursued swimming, volleyball, karate, badminton and cricket at the Sport Academy and was even selected for a South African tour sponsored by the Laureas Sports for Good Foundation, which was also her first experience travelling overseas. Thanks to the training and exposure she received from FoG, Manuja was able to achieve her dream of becoming a professional lifeguard and save the lives of many people.
