Children and Youth

The Foundation of Goodness provides a number of educational programmes and sporting activities for child and youth development in rural villages, to give the future generation better access to resources which will help them succeed and escape the cycle of poverty in which they are trapped.

Computer Literacy Programme

FoG seeks to improve the IT proficiency of rural villagers and develops their confidence to harness technology which can add value to their education and careers. The programme entails courses in; Graphic Designing, Kids Computer Training, Hardware & Network, Programming, MS Office and Web Design.

Training and development in Google Technologies, new web design software such as JOOMLA, integrating digital learning tools into other school subjects, online STEM activities and blended learning teaching methodologies help our teachers who also have to complete 48 hours of in-person training and 100 hours of assigned online self-learning courses to keep abreast of the most updated teaching materials and methodologies to deliver a better quality of learning to all students.

Education

To promote better education among children, encourage them to stay in school, overcome difficulties in keeping up with their peers and make the most of their school learning experience the Foundation of Goodness offers a range of co-curricular programmes and classes at its centres. The Foundation of Goodness also offers Pre-school facilities, free of charge, at the OYOB Centre of Excellence (Lahiru Pre-school) and some of its VHE Centres while educational classes are offered at the OYOB Centre of Excellence and all VHE Centres.

In addition, FoG also provides annual Essential School Supply Packs to children in need as well as yearly scholarships for rural students.

Infrastructure Development

The Foundation of Goodness helps to develop infrastructure and provide resources to rural communities through activities such as school, preschool & playground development and establishing special needs units, IT labs and libraries.

Values Development

We believe a good ethics and values system is just as important as formal education for the success and growth of a child. Therefore the Foundation of Goodness encourages all of our students to conducts community outreach projects, attend Life Skills & Life Values Development workshops and participate in the Children’s Good Values Initiative.

Children’s Good Values Initiative

Children make up an integral part of the Foundation of Goodness’ target beneficiaries and we consider it a priority to support the boys and girls of rural Sri Lanka, brimming with potential yet lacking the right opportunities to achieve their dreams for a better tomorrow. The Foundation of Goodness has reached beyond offering educational courses and sports training. We also have programmes to inculcate good values, manners, the right attitude, psycho-social support and environmental awareness.

As our Founder, Kushil Gunasekera, often says, “Passion and values combined, makes the outcome matchless”. One compulsory programme offered at every one of our Centres is the Children’s Good Values Initiative which focuses on inculcating good values in all our beneficiaries, working under a different theme every month. One of our biggest principles is to give back to the community and all of our sectors engage in community aid projects every year. Monthly topics include ‘Qualities to Master to be a Great Human Being’, ‘Be Free through Forgiveness and Reconciliation’ and ‘Together, Everyone Achieves more’.

STEM Education and Planetary Health Education Course

This year we introduced two new compulsory courses at all our Centres; the Planetary Health Education Course and STEM activities. STEM education activities are designed to apply science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in contexts that make connections between the classroom and the outside world around them. For example, making balloon rockets using simple material, to learn about the force produced by expelled air for dynamic power or learning to identify different materials. Our beneficiaries have thoroughly enjoyed these STEM activities, that required innovative thinking and teamwork, and have gained invaluable knowledge.

Another introduction is the Planetary Health Education Course, which includes lessons on COVID-19 and mental health for our beneficiaries island wide.

A huge thank you to Dr. Anusha Seneviratne who volunteered at FoG, for designing this timely programme for us. She is a scientist currently working to help develop the Cell & Gene Therapy industry, having previously researched cardiovascular disease for 9 years and obtained a PhD from Imperial College, London. Her concern about climate change and her time at FoG inspired her to create this course and educate the children of FoG to become future world leaders in sustainability and champions of nature!

Educational Scholarships

Educational sponsorships are a rare opportunity for children and youth from the remote regions surrounding Seenigama to pursue their studies despite financial difficulties. It is for this reason that the Foundation of Goodness (FoG) has created a scheme in which students from such backgrounds can pursue their school and higher education with the assistance of its donors and supporters.

Payments could be made annually or for the whole sponsorship period via online payment, telegraphic transfers, by way of cheques written in favour of the Foundation of Goodness, bank drafts or direct deposits to the Foundation of Goodness’ account.

When making online payments please specify as SCHOLARSHIP FOR UNIVERSITY STUDENT or SCHOLARSHIP FOR SCHOOL CHILDREN.

Please Note:

In view of the numerous difficulties encountered by us from the scholarship recipients, especially in regard to furnishing progress reports, please bear with us, as we notify the beneficiary of their obligations to the donor but cannot take responsibility of their failure to provide these reports on time since we do not absorb any administrative cost in particular unlike many other service organizations but rather credit the entire amount into the beneficiary’s account as granted by the donor.
